Government-funded training in Queensland
If you're an eligible Queensland resident, the Queensland Government's Career Start program can pay part of your course fees on selected qualifications. Australian Training Institute (RTO 30200) is an approved Skills Assure Supplier.

CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations
The Certificate II in Security Operations is the training required to apply for a Queensland security licence (for example, crowd controller or unarmed security officer). The licence itself is issued by the Queensland Office of Fair Trading, which applies its own requirements, including probity checks.

Am I eligible for Career Start?
To be eligible for a Career Start funded place through the general training pathway, you must:
- be aged 15 or older and no longer at school
- permanently live in Queensland
- be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (including humanitarian entrants), New Zealand citizen, or hold an eligible visa [CONFIRM visa categories]
You are not eligible if you:
- are currently a school student
- have completed a Certificate III or higher qualification in the last 10 years (school-based and foundation skills qualifications excluded) [CONFIRM exclusions]
- are currently enrolled in another DTET-funded qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred (foundation skills and self-funded/fee-for-service qualifications do not impact eligibility)

Concession rates
You may pay the lower concessional co-contribution if you [CONFIRM list against current program rules]:
- hold a current Health Care Card, Pensioner Concession Card or Veteran Concession Card, or are the dependant of a holder
- identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- have a disability
- are an adult prisoner

What if I'm not eligible?
You can still enrol at the standard course fee shown on each course page. Other options may also help:
- Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) — if you already have relevant skills and experience. RPL is an assessment pathway, not a funding program.

Most short courses (such as first aid, White Card, RSA and RSG) are not covered by Career Start and are charged at the standard fee.
Funding questions
Is funded training free?
No. The Queensland Government pays part of your training costs directly to ATI. You pay a co-contribution fee, which is lower if you're eligible for a concession.
Is funding automatic?
No. Every applicant is assessed against the program rules, and you'll need to provide evidence. We'll confirm whether you're eligible before you enrol.
Does funding guarantee I'll get a security licence?
No. Completing the Certificate II in Security Operations lets you apply for a licence. The Queensland Office of Fair Trading decides whether to issue it.
Can I use Career Start more than once?
The program sets limits on how many funded places you can access. We'll check your training history when we confirm your eligibility. [Program allows up to two funded places in set combinations — CONFIRM before stating]
