Traineeships: earn while you learn
A traineeship combines paid work with structured training, so you gain a nationally recognised qualification and real workplace experience at the same time.
What is a traineeship?
A traineeship is a formal arrangement between you, your employer and a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) such as ATI. You're employed and paid while you train, and you work toward a qualification relevant to your job. Traineeships can be full-time, part-time or school-based.
Traineeships with ATI
ATI delivers the following qualifications as traineeships: [CONFIRM LIST — e.g. BSB30120 Certificate III in Business; CPP20218 Certificate II in Security Operations; BSB41419 Certificate IV in WHS].
The Queensland Government may subsidise traineeship training for eligible trainees through the Career Start apprenticeship and traineeship pathway. [CONFIRM ATI is approved for traineeship funding on each qualification]
Who's involved
Your employer
Employs and pays you, provides on-the-job training and supervision, and signs the training contract.
ATI, your training provider
Delivers and assesses your training and issues your qualification when you're assessed as competent.
Apprentice Connect Australia Provider
Helps set up and register the training contract and supports you and your employer throughout.
How to start a traineeship
- 1Choose your industry and qualification.
- 2Find an employer who will employ you as a trainee — or, if you're already employed, talk to your employer.
- 3Contact an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider to arrange the training contract.
- 4Choose ATI as your training provider.
- 5Sign the training contract and start work and training.

For employers
Traineeships are a structured way to build skills in new and existing staff. ATI works with you to plan training around your operations and keeps you updated on your trainee's progress.
Employers may be eligible for government incentives and payroll tax exemptions. Because these change regularly, check current details with your Apprentice Connect Australia Provider, australianapprenticeships.gov.au and Queensland Revenue Office.

ATI is not registered on CRICOS and cannot enrol students on a student visa that requires a CRICOS-registered provider. Trainees must have the right to work in Australia.
